The Boston Area Tobacco Control Coalition (BATCC) brings together concerned community members to work to protect our residents from the hazards of tobacco use. BATCC is active in Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, Revere, Somerville and Winthrop.
What are our goals?
- To protect people from second-hand smoke
- To prevent young people from starting to smoke
- To connect current smokers to resources to help them quit

Who are our members?
- Both young people and adults are involved in our work. Many of our members are trained by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to help the community meet its tobacco control needs.
These members include:
- professional tobacco treatment specialists
- outreach workers
- youth and adult policy advocates
- government compliance specialists

What do we do?
BATCC prepares and mobilizes young people and adults to advocate for environments that are free of tobacco use and marketing. We also publicize existing resources for tobacco addiction treatment to help smokers quit. View our recent campaigns and events.

Who do we collaborate with?
In all of our work, we work closely with:
- individual community members
- private and public schools
- local police and fire departments
- other community coalitions
- health care providers
We work together with the American Cancer Society, Asthma and Allergy Association, Massachusetts Department of Education, Massachusetts Municipal Association, and Massachusetts Association of Health Boards.
The Boston Area Tobacco Control Coalition was founded in 1998 and is funded by the Massachusetts Tobacco Control Program (MTCP). The BATCC is a program of the Regional Center for Healthy Communities serving Greater Boston at The Medical Foundation (TMF Health).
